How it works

  1. Choose a static PDF or, when signed in, select an existing File or connected import.
  2. Choose the format, position, starting number and physical pages. The preview changes locally without creating a job.
  3. Select Add page numbers to process your PDF, then download the new document. Your original remains available.

Questions about PDF page numbers

How do I add PDF page numbers to selected pages?

Leave Pages blank to number every page, or enter physical pages such as 2,4,5-8. Pages are numbered in ascending physical order, and only selected pages get a new number. Duplicate or out-of-range pages are rejected.

What does X of N mean when I start at a different number?

N is the last number assigned, including your start number. Select pages 2, 4 and 5 and start at 7: Page X of N produces Page 7 of 9, Page 8 of 9 and Page 9 of 9. N is not the full document's physical page count in this example.

Which page-number formats and positions can I use?

Choose 1, Page 1, 1 of N or Page 1 of N. Place the numbers at the top or bottom, aligned left, center or right relative to the displayed page. Adjust size, color, opacity and margin. A label that cannot fit safely is rejected.

Can I replace existing numbers or number scanned PDFs?

New numbers are overlaid; existing numbers are not detected, removed or replaced. A supported static scanned PDF can receive numbers, but this tool does not run OCR or make the scanned page text searchable.

Does this change my original or logical PDF page labels?

No. Processing creates a new PDF while preserving the source File. Page order, visible geometry and existing page content are preserved. Logical page labels and bookmarks are not renumbered.

Can I number signed or password-protected PDFs?

Encrypted, signed or certified PDFs, forms, active content and damaged files are unsupported. Export an unsigned static copy first. The tool accepts up to 2,000 pages, subject to the current plan's file and storage limits.
