Add a text watermark to a PDF

Mark a draft, review copy or confidential document. Preview a text overlay, choose the pages and download a new PDF.

Watermark PDF

One configuration for each file. Up to 1 files · 20.0 MB per file · 250 MB combined.

0 files · 0 completed · 0 failed

Add compatible files to configure and process them together.

How it works

  1. Choose a supported static PDF, an existing owned File or a connected import when signed in.
  2. Enter your watermark text and choose position, size, opacity, rotation and pages. Editing the preview does not submit a processing job.
  3. Select Apply watermark and download the result. Your original File, page content and source history remain intact.

Questions about PDF watermarks

How can I add DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL to a PDF?

Enter DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or your own text, choose a position and opacity, and inspect the local preview. Processing adds the visible text overlay to a new PDF. It does not rewrite or remove the original page text.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Leave Pages blank for every page or enter physical pages such as 1,3,5-8. Selection is checked against the actual PDF. Mixed page sizes and right-angle page rotations are supported when the watermark fits.

Can I use a logo, emoji or accented text?

V1 supports text only, using bundled Bitstream Vera and 1–120 printable ASCII characters. Logo/image watermarks, uploaded fonts, accents, emoji and other scripts are unsupported. HTML-looking text is treated as literal text.

Does a PDF watermark prevent copying or editing?

No. A watermark is a visible mark, not encryption, DRM, redaction or removal-proof protection. A capable editor may remove it. Do not use a watermark to hide confidential text or personal information.

Will the original PDF, searchable text and page size be preserved?

The original File stays unchanged. The new PDF retains underlying text and vector content, page order, visible boxes and rotation. The watermark is a text overlay rather than a rasterized screenshot of each page. Existing watermarks are not removed.

Why might a PDF be rejected?

Encrypted, signed or certified documents, forms, scripts, attachments, active-content and damaged PDFs are unsupported. Oversized text or unsafe page geometry also fails. Export an unsigned static copy and shorten the watermark or reduce its size when needed; existing plan limits and the 2,000-page cap apply.
