Remove PDF document metadata

Create a new PDF without supported document properties and XMP metadata. Your original stays intact, and visible content is preserved.

Remove PDF metadata

One configuration for each file. Up to 1 files · 20.0 MB per file · 250 MB combined.

Removes supported document properties, XMP, editing history, thumbnails and source IDs from a newly written PDF. Visible text, image/font assets, bookmarks and retained functional content are not anonymized. Originals stay unchanged. Comments, hidden layers, signed/encrypted and active PDFs are unsupported.

How it works

  1. Choose a supported static unsigned PDF, an existing owned File or a connected import when signed in.
  2. Review the privacy limits below. There are no selective-retention settings or guessed removed-field counts.
  3. Select Remove metadata. Dislify writes and validates a new PDF, then offers the result for download without changing the original.

Questions about PDF metadata removal

Which PDF metadata does this remove?

It removes the document Info dictionary, including author, title, subject, keywords, creator, producer, dates and custom properties. Supported catalog/page/resource XMP metadata, private editing dictionaries, document thumbnails and source document IDs are also removed. The fresh rewrite discards old incremental revisions and unreferenced objects.

Does removing metadata make a PDF anonymous?

No. Visible names, searchable text, logos, scanned image pixels, font/image asset data and retained functional content may still identify people. Bookmarks, named destinations, page labels and accessibility descriptions are retained. This is metadata cleanup, not redaction, forensic anonymization or secure erasure.

Are image EXIF data, font names and bookmarks cleaned too?

Encoded image and font assets are preserved rather than re-encoded. Metadata inside those assets and identifying bookmark titles are outside this tool's promise. Supported PDF Metadata entries attached to resources are removed, but arbitrary identifying information within content or assets is not.

What happens to comments, layers, signatures and encrypted PDFs?

Comments, unsupported annotations, hidden layers and external content are rejected rather than silently flattened or deleted. Destination-only internal links can be retained. Encrypted, signed/certified, forms, scripts, attachments and damaged PDFs are also unsupported. Export an unsigned static copy first.

Does it delete the metadata from my saved original?

No. Your source File and its metadata remain unchanged. The result is a new File with normal ownership, history and retention. Existing external copies, earlier downloads, shared originals and provider storage are not cleaned by this operation.

Will an already-clean PDF be processed, and will it get smaller?

A supported clean PDF still gets a newly written, validated output File. Its size may increase or decrease; metadata removal is not compression. Page count, order, visible geometry and underlying content are preserved within the supported static-PDF contract. Current plan limits and the 2,000-page cap apply.
